Before establishing an offensive system, it's critical to assess your team using some basic questions:
- How experienced are your players?
- Who's dominant, and who struggles under pressure?
- Who has slow footwork, and who has quick feet?
- Who's the opposition on the other side of the net?
- How much smart decision-making is your setter capable of taking on?
Once those questions are answered, you cant start formulating your plays and offensive systems. Key steps to formulating offense is:
- Clear communication between your players about who's calling the plays and what role each person is responsible for.
- Consistency of plays, sets and calls.
- Assessing over time whether the offensive systems need to be adjusted or tweaked. Keeping stats is a critical part of finding the best systems to learn what's working.
